"Super-fat, well-mixed sounds put in all the right places, this stuff really works." as Mr. VonStroke describes this first original EP on Dirty Bird of this year, and I'm bound to agree!
Super hard to define in the absolutely best kind of way! This is a quite magic track by Mr Tweeks, in the borderlands of ultra modern jazz-influenced dance music, simply delicious.
With a good big portion of soul in it as well, slurp!
Brilliant (it's Claude Vonstroke, what did you expect?) remix by the Dirty Bird himself, on the allready certified dope track by our fav youngn frenchie.
New day new label - horray to that I say! Odd Socks seems more or less boxfresh, wich is allways exciting!
This first release, a solid two tracker, is a deep and flairful affair, wich gets me ticking! Josh T with some nice productions that you should mos def be checking out!
Second remix-ep of 2012 is a rollercoster of ideas and perspectives - House Of Royalty, Alca Pwnd, Sticky Stockholm and the Orphans take on the massive Limbo EP from earlier this winter.
Hard working Stockholm fellow-DJ Cristian Dinamarca drops his debut EP on the allways productive across-the-lake-label Top Billin, and it sounds real, real nice!
Impressive indeed!
Bass heavy, sweet vocal cuts and a deep understanding for dope vibes defines this three tracker. Easy to appriciate, and will no doubt be all over Stockholm dancefloors the coming months!
Green Velvet has been a longtime favorite of mine since, well the swedish equivalent of high school I guess. This guy produces some AAA-quality tunes, and isn't afraid of adding some tounge in cheek humor to the mix. And he just keeps on delivering hot stuff. A new colab with Harvard Bass was release earlier in march. While the A-side, "Jumbo Mumbo", is a fantastic track I would say b-side "Kickn It" is the killer on this one. Heavy ordnance.
There's absolutely no reasonable reason why I haven't published this earlier. However, it's excellency in it's purest form. A mix that feels like a powertrack in the best possible of ways.
A work of art, just super inspirational - well executed and playful. A perfect combo.
Listen to the Sample Pleasures Mixtape over, and over, and over, and over again.
Proper brilliant release from Leeds-label Gruuv, fantastic tracks from Audiojack, Homework and S.K.A.M in there, where the bassline in Rush Hour moves me the most, without any doubt.
Deep, surprising and very, very good - Steyoyoke keeps impressing me, there second release is a magic one - Dahu provides a two track ep you need to check out!
...so the auto correct feature on Mixcloud is giving me a big headache. But anyway, here it is: The Orphans first foray into the Mixcloud universe. And what better way to celebrate that then with a mix consisting of sounds you'll only hear on 12-3 Recordings? And we might have squeezed in an upcoming Orphans track as well. Neat
Also, note to self: I can't spell in german for shit. Akward.
Mick Benjamins:
"City Love is the one to go for on this EP. Summer is in town, nice!"
D.Fine:
"Solid Ep ! Snake Juice is my fav!"
Audioprophecy:
"City Love !!! Yes!!! Dope and euphoric old school house feeling.... reminds me of when Doc Martin used to blow my mind in dark warehouses in LA. All three tracks will be in the crate!"
Disco Mike:
"City love is an instant classic. Playing this one out at the club tomorrow night."
Laundrymix:
"Right Quick is really good!"
About:
The Sticky Stockholm recipe for feeling fresh has been under developement for years. It’s a perfectly calibrated formula for maximum personal achievement in freshness. Categories include: Fresh technology, God’s way of determining who is dope, and who is not. Smiling, acceptable only when the teeth goes "tchiiing". Sweet cocktails. Poise. Dope suits. Canadian whiskey. The perfect hihat pattern.
So what is City Love, Right Quick and Snakejuice if not the utlimate expression, the final interpretation of that very idea?
Sit back, chillax and enjoy house music as it is presented through a concept so refined it should be transformed in to physical form and presented as a new raw material. Bienvenue à Freshopolis!
The magic Studio Barnhus-label coming at it again with a nice four track EP from Wesley Matsell, house with some rather pleasant electronic vibes in it.
My prefered track would with out any doubt be the uplifting a-side Unmaker, a happy beat indeed!
Finally. I've been eagerly waiting for a new Johanna Knutsson EP since last years Heavy Baby-release on Klasse - a track that I've played at least a good 10-15 times in my sets since then.
Well, boom! She's back.
This does not, in any way, fail - the original mix of Groove Support is without any doubt my prefered track: Magic stabs, a manic voice cut, sweet builds and a powerfull production allthrough. One dope EP, simple as that!
So I guess I'll be playing this as much as I played Heavy Baby, without any doubt.
So the remix album of Renaissance Man's debut is here and it sure has some nice tunes to offer. Personally I enjoy Jori Hulkonen's acidic twist on "Natty Jussi" but it's not easy to pick a favourite.
I have discovered that maybe I'm overusing the term "smooth" latley. But man, I really can't find any better way to describe this track. It's smoothness in a nutshell.
Swedish multi-genre musical genious Marcus Price is finally dropping his EP on the always awesome Discobelle label, Sweden representing to the fullest!
Tasty music, where the title track moves me the most!
New free (!) EP from Stockholm-based DJ/Producer Victor Berghmeister, I can mos def get down to this: sweet samples, undeniable groove and tight production - ace!
You are probably thinking that a release with a title like this one is heavy on driving progressions och stabs and sweet synth sounds. And guess what, you're absolutely right.
Born and raised in Santiago, Chile Dinky a.k.a Alejandra Iglesias was caught up in the electronic music wave in the early 90's. Since then Dinky's made a name for herself as a diligent dj and skillful producer in New York and Berlin, where she's been based since 2003.
Dinky's productions are best described as minimalistic and experimental and span over a wide variety of genres, just as she never limits herself to one style as a dj.
Killer track of the Time To Lose It EP (Visionquest 2011).
Dreamy, soulful nugget from the album Anemik (Wagon Repair 2009) which got the 16th place in the" Albums of the year" on Resident Advisor.
It's the 8th of March 2012 - Internation Women's Day - and we're still fighting for our rights. In this blog today, we're blogging about female DJ:s that we admire. As a female DJ, I'm used to be treated differently than my male cohorts. I've been asked to pay admission at the places we're playing at. I've been ignored by organizers when we're all showing up to play our sets. I'm not on the "guest list".
I rarely reflect over these things. I tend to ignore them. It's usually something someone else point out for me. Maybe because I don't expect more, as a woman and as someone who's used to this treatment.
But there's light in the dark. There are women like Ellen Allien, who I respect and admire and has gotten far by being awesome. This blog post goes out to you.
Fellow swede Johanna Knutsson released a stunning debut track on Klasse Recordings last spring. This is a track that just makes your pulse go BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM with an incredibly groovy beat and baseline.
To call that heavy is a bit of an understatement and of course makes you stoked for her next release. Don't know when that is coming out, so in the meantime, be sure to check out her bootlegs and remixes. Like this funky piece:
Or maybe one of her mixtapes like this hour full of dopeness:
Hailing from my home country Poland (the lovely city of Kraków to be precise), deCtar has been playing around Europe for some time now. I had a chance to se her open up for Erol Alkan with a stellar 1-hour set of house and techno goodness. You can actually listen to it here:
It's the 8th of March today, the International Womens Day, a super important day indeed.
The world of men and women is far from equal in so many ways, and certanly in this male dominated DJ-buisness. The goal is as always, to let people be judged and praised as humans, and not by their gender, etnicity or sexuality, but till that blessed day - let's take some action!
So, today we'll each do a post about a female producer, someone we think is completely and utterly awesome - for their skills as dj:s and producers. There's many brilliant female producers out there, but sometimes, they tend to disapear in the never ending wave of loud screaming dj-dudes.
La Fleur is a Swedish DJ-veteran, now living in Berlin, who both do amazing dj-sets and run a dope label, as well as producing fantastic contemporary house music, with a certain vintage touch to it. In this post, her legendary Flowerhead track, as well as the magic a-side production from the most recent Petals On Fire EP.
There's no coincidence I find myself mixing her tracks in my sets ever so often. Her brilliance can not be exaggerated!
Sandy Loops:
"Absolutely fabulous EP! Makes me wanna dance!"
DJ Sabo:
"Like the native indian vibes of Kinnikinic, cool for deep late nite sets."
Boyfriend:
"KINNIKINIC is deeeeeeeep! Nice one thanks!"
DJ Badre:
"Kinnikinic is awesome!"
J.Op:
"Both tracks are great!"
About:
A profound fascination for the Shelter House genre has defined the latest months spent in the studio, Stockholm dj/producer Alca Pwnd has been digging through crates, to say the least. This has, no doubt, rubbed off on the production side as well, not without leaving his trademarked touch, rest asured.
Crispy like a crusty crunchy apple pie crust, as we're used to, Jerry Nellert aka Alca Pwnd delivers two club ready steady tracks: hot like a double R special brew coffee. A-side being a weirdly funky Shelter bomb with a wichita touch, yes, you read it - we said it. The B in B-side stands for Banger - guaranteed to move yer buts. The P in production standing for pure powerplayer production perfection.
We're extremely proud to release a new ep by this Swedish Picasso painting with soundwaves.
